The year is established by the reference to the parliamentary election (see n. 2, below).
Lubbock was one of two Liberal candidates in the western division of Kent in the general election held in November 1868; polling in this division took place on 23 November (The Times, 21 November 1868, p. 7).
Down, Farnborough, and Cudham were parishes in the western division of Kent. The polling place for these voters was the nearby town of Bromley (Post Office directory of the six home counties 1866).
